  1. Staying happy is easier said than done and I would think grief weakens the heart. How does grief weaken the lungs?

  2. Your lungs extract qi from the air and regulate the supply of internal healing energy. The word anxiety comes from the root word angst, which means “to narrow”. This refers to the narrowing of the bronchial tubes. When you feel anxiety your breath and qi are constricted and can’t flow in or out of your lungs easily. It’s well known that anxiety can bring on, or increase the level of an asthma attack or other bronchial conditions.

Grief or sorrow will depress and weaken your lungs, generally reducing your health and vitality. Grief or grieving is similar to anxiety by disturbing the easy flow of your breath. However, this doesn’t mean that you should suppress feelings of sorrow or grieving. Holding in or stuffing your response to an upsetting event will weaken your lung qi.
